Hermann Kaufmann
As a student of law or a comparable major, it is possible to work as a student assistant at the Kaufmann law firm. Mr. Kaufmann is happy to support and empower young trainees and thus you quickly gain a direct insight into the work and challenges faced by a lawyer or legal specialist.
Depending on personal preference and the needs of the law firm, the main tasks may include writing homepage articles on current case law and trending topics such as the diesel scandal, investment fraud or construction defects. You are also quickly trusted to handle cases on your own, so that “reading” a file and working out the next steps is just as much a task as researching or obtaining missing information on a case. Mr. Kaufmann takes the time to explain issues or discuss procedures, is engaging and open to constructive suggestions. The fact that the Kaufmann law firm has a manageable number of staff means that there is room to maneuver, a broad range of tasks to get to know and the opportunity to work independently and autonomously.
Tomke Kaufmann
A law firm day at Kaufmann is always very structured and organized. We employees are in close contact with Mr. Kaufmann when processing the files. Before starting work, we discuss with Mr. Kaufmann which tasks will be carried out by whom. This means that the tasks are clearly distributed and prioritized. Especially in a small law firm like ours, good communication is required to keep processes running smoothly and to be able to support each other as a team in the best possible way. The close cooperation with Mr. Kaufmann ensures a very good working atmosphere in the firm and promotes independent work and personal development.
Our tasks naturally include receiving and answering the phone. We help our clients competently before they go to Mr. Kaufmann or our second lawyer, Mr. Kranzkowski, for advice or a personal meeting. We are mainly responsible for processing files and resubmissions on a daily basis, which includes the independent recording of facts and the creation of written pleadings. We are also responsible for filing the files and do this in consultation with Mr. Kaufmann. In addition to processing files and resubmissions, there is also mail, e-mail and beA processing(special electronic mailbox for lawyers), which includes noting deadlines, scanning and saving incoming mail in the lawyer’s program and independently consulting incoming mail with Mr. Kaufmann. In addition to conscientious file work, there is also a dynamic and sometimes challenging component in the form of incoming deadlines and documents that require prompt action. Furthermore, written pleadings, prioritized according to the urgency of the deadline, are prepared by us after dictation by Mr. Kaufmann or Mr. Kranzkowski and then submitted for signature. Corresponding with courts, insurance companies, etc. is also one of our typical tasks, as it involves making inquiries, arranging or postponing appointments and carrying out research.
All in all, day-to-day work at the Kaufmann law firm is independent, structured and organized, which is a lot of fun.
Ann-Kathrin Heine
As a trainee at Kaufmann, you get exciting and interesting tasks and a good insight into the workings of the firm. On the one hand, you learn to organize and coordinate your daily routine effectively and independently. There is also close cooperation with Mr. Kaufmann, who explains the connections within the files and the reasons for the respective procedure. According to the cliché, the tasks of a trainee include making coffee, buying stamps or fetching crates of water. However, this only takes up a small part of the tasks. Resubmissions can be processed independently, applications can be prepared to such an extent that you can give independent feedback on which documents are still missing and what needs to be considered in the further procedure. You get good guidance from your team colleagues on how to use the law firm program correctly and are just as active in it as your colleagues. You can do the mail processing, bookkeeping and drafting of pleadings yourself and always get feedback on how to improve.
